Give the gift of water
Hello my name is Marian and thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.
This cause means so much to me as back in 2011 I visited Malawi and spent some time with the locals. I fell in love with the
Country and the people. I found their music, culture, big smiles and dance so inspirational. I promised myself that someday I would do something for the people that had such a
profound effect on my life with the very little they had.
I am fundraising for a community from the Dzoole village in the Ntcheu District,
Southern Malawi. The women in the community are struggling with obtaining clean water since the pump developed a fault, as a part needs replacing.
They are looking to restore the system. They do not have the funds to do this. People are now using water from the river that is unsanitised and others queue to use a single hand
pump in the village.
The money raised will be used to fix the Grundfos SQflex water pump.
Any extra money raised will be donated to the local school library.
I've always stayed in touch with the founder Lemani Ngaiyaye of Future4All Malawi,
and decided now was a very important time to help the community fix the water system which they so rely on.
The below photo shows women queueing up at the only borehole in Dzoole Village.
It takes about 2 hours for one to access water from the borehole.
Over 85 percent of the people in Dzoole Village get water for drinking and all domestic
use from unprotected wells. The village has over 3500 people and has only one borehole
where safe and clean water can be accessed. Women and girls spend over 2 hours in a
queue at this borehole but mostly they just run to the river and get the water they need.
I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting this fundraiser.
To help get the word out, I'd so appreciate if you could share the link with all your friends
and family. As part of this fundraiser I will continue my dip in the sea for October.
Go raibh míle maith agaibh / Thank you everyone.
