Hello. My name is Jeannette Erskine. My husband and I are both Marine Corps Veterans. My mother, Sandra, is the widowed wife of WWII Navy Veteran John Erskine. Sandra was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's in 2011. She has been fighting an incurable disease that traps you in your brain for over a decade. Fast forward to 2014. Mom was visibly losing her short-term memory and having trouble managing tasks. In the fall of 2014, she was at my home when her heart stopped. We called 911, and she spent a week in the hospital trying to get answers. Mom had developed congenital heart failure. Well, we beat that! She is a survivor; she always has been a fighter. She is an amazing woman with a generous, compassionate heart. She has always stood up and fought for what is right. She had that gentle, quiet strength. She always had welcoming arms; hugs that made our hearts feel whole again. My mom and Aunt both grew up swimming and fishing, which has created a love for water.
In 2016, my aunt was diagnosed with dementia, and we moved her in with us also. Aunt Ann never married or had children. My Aunt is such a kind and compassionate woman. She was a caretaker for the elderly herself. I could not abandon her. So, I took on the responsibilities of caring for both. It has been challenging and rewarding, heartbreaking and touching.
On October 26, 2021, my mother was also diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I had to make a heartbreaking decision regarding treating cancer on her behalf. I could not bring myself to put her through any further suffering. I couldn’t put her through the barbaric treatments, just to prolong her suffering. She was put into Hospice care in our home two days before Christmas 2021. She now requires 24/7 care, which we provide in our home, with caretaking aides.
Our home is older & had settled. The pipes burst in our pool & the deck cracked. After working hard to save enough of our hard earned money we repaired the pipes, replaced the jets & skimmers, & hired a contractor. Either they were scammers or the worst contractors ever, because they destroyed the deck, damaged the pool, & our home. You can see some of it here . Or here https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTd7yLrxB/?k=1
Now we’re faced with the crushing cost to repair while still paying to care for my Mom & Aunt advanced care.
JT Concrete Services ( ) or ( ) immediately reached out and generously wants to help repair the damage, donating what they can. We are raising money to pay for the pool repair as well as both of their medical expenses. These donations will help us during what has been the most challenging time of my life.
I have watched as my mom has slowly faded away, helpless to do anything. Donations of any size will help provide assistance to get through the immediate financial challenge while Sandra and Ann continue to receive the advanced care they both need. If you are able and willing, our family will be humbled by your generosity. Together, we can help them swim a few more times, feel the total relaxation of floating in the water, and help pay for their increasing cost of care. These donations will give us a little peace of mind while we work to meet their needs and hopefully make one last wish of swimming happen. All donations will ensure they receive the best care and quality of life possible that they both deserve.
Thank you for any support you can offer. No gift is too small!
