The legendary Texas dancehall, Broken Spoke, damaged when thieves rammed a truck into the front of the building to steal from an ATM that was on the porch!

The Broken Spoke is a Texas landmark that’s been in business since 1964! It’s the last of the true Texas dancehalls and damn sure proud of it! People like Bob Wills, Willie Nelson, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton have all played here!

James & Annetta White, the owners, were woke up with a call from the Austin Police Department early this morning (June 30, 2020). Dirty, low-life thieves, crashed a truck into the front of our building so they could steal the $$ from the ATM that was on our front porch. The right side of our porch is completely destroyed and the front wall will have to be rebuilt, along with replacing the window that was shattered. James & Annetta White have worked hard their entire life and they don’t deserve all of this. 2020 has been the hardest year in the Spoke’s history and it’s not getting any easier. All the bars being closed because of the Corona virus pandemic was devastating to so many small businesses. James & Annetta have been out at least $20,000 a month with no income coming in, since the closures. Even after Gov. Abbott allowed bars to reopen about 6 weeks ago, business was not good. We only had about 60 people on a Saturday night which made it real hard for us to make enough $$ to pay the bills or our employees & musicians to make a living. We’re trying to stay positive and we know that it’s important to so many people that we stay in business. We’re more than just a bar or a dancehall...we’re where memories are made, where people can still feel like they’re in Texas and where live music and traditions are alive! My name is Ginny White-Peacock and my parents are James & Annetta, the owners of the Broken Spoke. I am setting up this GoFundMe after so many loyal friends and fans asked where they could donate. My heart was shattered when I got a phone call from my dad this morning, telling me what had happened up at the Spoke. I love my parents so much and they don’t deserve to go through all of this at the age of 81 & 77. My dad just wants to get back to normal, listening to great country music, greeting all of you fine folks and singing a few songs with the bands! Thank y’all in advance! We’ll keep y’all posted about any updates in the police case.
