Many know Sunny the Therapy Dog. He is an 8 year old Golden Retriever, certified through Alliance of Therapy Dogs as well as HOPE Animal-Assisted Crisis Response. Sunny has devoted thousands of hours to helping others, from students and staff in schools and universities, patients and staff in hospitals and rehab facilities, to first responders within EMS, fire, and law enforcement. He's been to domestic violence and homeless shelters, accompanied victims to court, and assisted hundreds of child victims of abuse and neglect undergo trauma assessments and treatment.

Now he needs help. Fifteen months ago, Sunny tore his left ACL, had surgery, incurred several infections, and eventually had the hardware removed. After just starting to feel better, he tore his right ACL. He is going into surgery immediately, but we just learned that the insurance purchased over a year ago won't cover it because the initial left-side injury makes it a preexisting condition on the right side. $10,000 has been invested so far in treating the left knee and subsequent complications, with an additional $6000 being incurred for the right knee.
