Fix Roland's Butt

Donation protected
Hey folks,

Welp, it's not easy for me to ask for help at the best of times, much less during a global pandemic and recession, but: here we are.

I recently discovered a large, discolored and irregular growth just below (on the border, really) of Roland's b-hole; before you ask, he was getting a bath at the time.  Our vet feels the growth is "inconsistent with the benign fatty tissue" that's common in dogs of his age and I am going to have it removed and sent for analysis before it grows any larger. Already it appears to be causing him discomfort, and I worry that it will metastasize (if it hasn't already) or grow into his rectum. I acknowledge that I might only be buying us more time together but, on the other hand: isn't that all we can ever really do for our loved ones?

Despite being close to twelve years old, Roland still runs fast and plays hard and he has a bright gleam in his eyes (or maybe that's the cataracts) that comes out whenever a stick is thrown in the lake. I believe he has a lot of life left in him and I do not want this growth to steal that from us.

I had always anticipated that Roland's elderly care would be expensive, but I did not anticipate being jobless when a massive expense like this came down the pike. I am asking for your help with his surgery costs so we can focus on recovery and care.

I am making this GoFundMe at the suggestion of a friend who offered to help; they reminded me that Roland has cultivated his own community of care throughout his eleven years with me that includes friends and colleagues. I know his gentle, pointy snout has pushed its way under your hands innumerable times to extort pets, and we are asking, humbly for your generous hands yet again.

If I shared this with you and you cannot contribute, please do not feel obligated in any way. I have access to more than enough credit to cover this expense and will surely be working again before long.

I am mostly making this at the behest of friends who have already offered to help. I wanted to form a community (or ka-tet, if you'll excuse the insular reference to his namesake) of care around funding and sharing in Roland's recovery journey. I will be sharing updates on his recovery (including pathetic neck come pics) here and I hope everyone who is generous enough to donate can share in the bounty of the extended time we will have together.
