I always have said that Betty is this wonderful woodland creature who we have the privilege to care for. She came to us in 2021 as a “foster” when she was 7 weeks old. She was tiny, scared, and didn’t trust humans. After 2 days of fostering her, we gained her trust and we instantly knew we couldn’t give her up. She went from a hissing ball of fur, to an affectionate, curious, and sassy girl. She reluctantly welcomed a new brother, Simon, and she has grown up to be a needy girl who loves belly rubs and cuddles on the couch. She is a true daddy’s girl, but will happily settle for time with mom if I’m on the couch.
On Thursday, our little girl emerged from one of her hiding spots for dinner and wasn’t putting weight on one of her back legs. We were fortunate to get her an urgent care appointment at a local vet, and radiographs revealed she had broken her heel. Due to the complexity of the break, she requires surgery done by an orthopedic specialist. The bone is so small that the hospital’s usual referral surgeon didn’t even have hardware small enough to repair the fracture.
Betty’s surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7th, at Woodland Vet Hospital. Her surgery is way more than we were expecting, so we are hoping to raise some funds to help cover the cost of the procedure.
Betty is a stoic girl who puts a brave face on to hide the pain, but we know our little girl is hurting and want to do the best we can to help her heal. While Betty would probably be terrified to meet everyone who loves her (she is a pandemic baby introvert after all), we are so grateful for any contribution you can make to her surgery funds.
