Five Feline Friends: Urgent Care Needed
Donation protected
Hi. We're Tracey & Sam and we're fundraising for our cats' care. Yes, that's "cats" *plural* because we have five of them.
When we arrived in Northwestern Pennsylvania, we had three cats, each we've had since kittenhood,
*Jolie, sandy tabby, age 15, adopted in 2010 from the NYCACC in Brownsville, Brooklyn, NY. Jolie is our senior cat and the one most likely to meme herself...
and our sun and moon twins,
*Apollo & *Artemis, black cats, age 2.5, adopted in 2022 from the Cat Adoption Team in Sherwood, Oregon, littermates, they still sleep together sometimes. <3
Then the new kids showed up:
*Peppermint, (white & black floofball) age 5(?), took up residence on our back patio and never left. She is the flea-hosting equivalent of Typhoid Mary, and part of the reason we need this help.
*Merlin (gray with gold eyes), age 1.5(?), showed up on our doorstep the weekend before Thanksgiving, skinny, covered in ticks, with a broken ankle, infected down to the bone, the other reason we need help. We're looking into getting him to a specialist to see what can be done to save his foot, (can we get him a tiny ankle brace? do we really need surgery? amputation? reconstruction?)
I'm going to be as transparent as I can here: I'm not working. I was recently hospitalized for malnutrition and then under psychiatric care. I am a writer and teacher but my mental health isn't stable enough for me to work. My husband is disabled. We get EBT and food pantry, but that doesn't help feed our cats. Until our situation changes, we need ongoing help.
The flea infestation that Peppermint brought should be gone, but is not. In 25 years of hosting cats I have never seen anything like this. Three out of the five cats have skin issues now. And if one has tapeworms, they probably all do. And three of five need vaccinated.
Your donation will go towards getting our cats to the vet to deal with these issues and keeping them fed along with plenty of litter to poop in. We are both neurodivergent and our cats are our hearts as you can probably tell from these photos. We are trying our best but it is not enough.
I know there's a lot of stuff happening in the world. Please only give if you can. Please share if you love cats and hate fleas.
Much love. --Tracey & Sam
