On Saturday 19th July 2025, George Rickwood stepped into the boxing ring to raise money for cancer research – a cause close to his heart after supporting his mum through breast cancer. Just five days later, on Thursday 24th July, George’s own fight began.

He was rushed to Southampton General Hospital, where a 3+ hour emergency decompressive craniectomy brain operation saved his life. George remains in intensive care, drifting in and out of consciousness, showing small but hopeful signs. The road ahead is long and uncertain – but if you know George, you know he’s a fighter.

We are deeply grateful to all the incredible hospital staff for keeping George alive and caring for him daily.

George is more than a patient – he’s a devoted partner to Georgia, a loving dad to two young children, and a cherished son, brother, nephew and friend. He’s the person who shows up when you need help, who listens, who puts everyone before himself.

Now, George needs us.

As a self-employed worker, he has no income while recovering. Georgia is doing everything possible to keep their home stable for the children, but the financial strain is heavy. The family faces months – perhaps years – of rehabilitation and uncertainty.
