Five cats who lost their human need your help

Cat lover Evie cared for numerous cats on her block, both her own and strays. Her cats were the most important thing in the world to her after her children, and she always wanted to do right by them, but because of the high cost of veterinary care, all she could afford was to shower them with love. When Evie died suddenly in April, her 5 pet cats lost their human and their home.

A local independent rescuer, who had been helping Evie with cat food as well as getting new cats spayed and neutered, got everyone safely out of the apartment, got them to the vet (for updated vaccines, FIV/FeLV tests, deworming, flea treatment, and microchipping), and found foster homes. Can you imagine, in 2 days, getting 5 new cats to take care of? Just this initial emergency vetting alone cost $600.

 

Having not received veterinary care in years, Bebo, Zena, Buttons, and Babybear were all diagnosed with dental disease, which is very painful, but treatable. To safely put them under anesthesia for the dentals, they each needed to see the vet for bloodwork and a full workup.

 

All the cats are sweet, young (~4–7 years), and have long, happy lives ahead, thanks to the rescuers and foster families who are taking care of each cat’s medical needs so they are in their best shape for their forever homes. It would be one thing to make this time and financial commitment to one cat, but now multiply that by 5!

 

We are working with great vets that offer discounts to rescuers and homeless animals. But the cost of all the vet bills for these 5 cats is still significant, and we need to raise $6500. (A breakdown of expenses is below.)

Bebo wants to play all the time like he’s still a kitten. His foster says he’s very affectionate – loves pets, will sit on your lap – and very social and will greet people coming to visit. In addition to a dental, the vet discovered that Bebo has a heart murmur, so he’ll need an echocardiogram, an additional $500, and he may also have food allergies, so he’s on a special diet to figure that out.

 

Buttons loves being petted and brushed more than any cat in the world. He sleeps right next to his foster mom every night, and hangs out with her at her desk every day. Buttons has the most severe dental disease — and a heart murmur as well — but this doesn’t stop him from being a happy, snuggly, playful guy.

 

Zena is just as sweet, friendly, and outgoing as Bebo. Her foster family have already fallen completely in love with her — and are ready to adopt her! — as soon as we get her healthy.

 

Babybear was very scared and shy when she was rescued, but after a couple days with her foster family, she blossomed into a cuddly, friendly girl who loves hanging with her people (and would like to be friends with the other cat in the home!). In addition to her standard vet exam, she was spayed, meaning her life has already improved 100%. Now she just needs healthy teeth!

Lil Bit was the last cat rescued. She was so terrified that it took several days before we even saw her. Now in a foster home, LB is realizing she’s safe, and she is loving all the attention and pets she’s getting. LB is the only cat that does not need any more vet procedures — just a loving adoptive family.
 

Bebo, Zena, Buttons, Babybear, and Lil Bit had their whole lives turned upside down, but cats are resilient and they are all doing amazingly well. We couldn’t turn our back on these sweethearts — for their sake and Evie’s.
