We're a team of medical students from FIU's Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, and this summer we're heading to remote riverine communities along the upper Amazon River in Peru. Through our partnership with Project Amazonas, a non-profit that has worked in the region since 1994, we'll be traveling to communities like Buena Vista, El Chino, El Charo, El Huaysi, and Esperanza from 07/11 - 07/19 this summer to provide medical care that many residents would otherwise never have access to.
What keeps our program coming back is that this isn't a one-time trip. Each year's team builds on the successes and lessons of the last, identifying ongoing needs and returning with targeted solutions. This year, we're collecting hat donations to address sun exposure and sourcing electrolyte supplements to help tackle dehydration, both serious concerns in the region.
Funds raised will go toward the team's travel costs and then the medical supplies we bring with us. For a lot of the people we see, our annual visit is their only real contact with healthcare. So whether you're able to donate or just share this page, it genuinely goes a long way. Thank you for supporting the communities we serve and us!
