FISU Games- Support my athletic and academic goals!

Hi, my name is Brooke Ailey and I am fundraising for my upcoming trip to the FISU World University Games in Torino, Italy. I am a student-athlete, skiing for Nipissing University. I am raising funds for my flight (1,800), accommodations, meals, ground transportation (1,755), coaching (1,250), race fees (1,600), deposit (750) and the team kit (375) when I am at the Games. The total of the fees is $6,780.

Born in Thunder Bay, I have been cross-country skiing for my entire life, with my home club at Lappe Nordic. I have been so fortunate to have grown up skiing for such an awesome club, with amazing coaches, teammates, and community. After high-school, I wanted to continue to ski at a high-level, while also pursuing an education. Nipissing University was a perfect choice to balance my academic and athletic goals.

In my first year, I suffered a very severe concussion that ended my race season. I was so grateful to have had such great support from my athletic therapists, coaches, and teammates, but it was a very challenging year for myself, both mentally and physically. Going into my second year, I was excited to race again, with renewed energy and excitement for skiing. While I did at times struggle with reoccurring lung issues from a diagnosis of long-COVID in 2021, I had a great season, highlighted with a 9th place at OUA Champs and a 6th place in the U20 Sprint at Nationals. Building on that momentum, I went into my summer and fall of training with my eyes set on FISU. I had a great season of training, and came into these qualifiers motivated, excited, and ready to race. I want to give a huge thank you to everyone who has helped me get to this point, and humbly ask for your support to help cover the cost of this event.

As a university athlete, who receives support from my school but is mostly self-funded, the cost of ski racing has long been a barrier. I am incredibly humbled and honoured to represent Lappe Nordic, Nipissing University, and Team Canada, and would appreciate any support in helping me achieve my goals!
