Fisk Family on missions

We would like to share our journey with you in hopes the Lord will give you a desire to join us on our journey with Him. It started in November 2020 when we felt the Lord calling us to missions. We didn’t know what that looked like, so we started asking God to show us when, where, and how. We only knew that as a homeschooling family it would include our children. In March 2021 that answer came through our discovery of a 60 year-old international, interdenominational, and intergenerational ministry by the name of Youth With a Mission aka YWAM. Through much prayer and planning we decided sell our home in South Carolina and attend a Family Discipleship Training School in Tyler, Texas. The school included a twelve week lecture phase for the entire family followed by a seven week outreach (mission) trip to Detroit, MI and Bemidji, MN.

During the lecture phase we saw much spiritual growth and maturity in our two older children (11 and 8) and a blossoming of our three-year-old’s personality. Erik and I experienced significant spiritual healing and growth, both as individuals, as well as in our marriage. We learned many practical skills/tools that taught us to better connect as family and to intentionally disciple our children in their faith and walk with God. The tools we learned while there will continue to help us for a lifetime!

In Bemidji, MN we were so blessed to be able to work with the Ojibwa Tribe on and around their reservation. The first week we served a very small (just 5 students) adult Native American Bible College where Erik formed an ongoing relationship with one of the students. The next week we partnered with a struggling church on the reservation where we ran a week long VBS for the children. The difference between the first night and the last was like night and day! By the end of the week twelve out of twenty-five children gave their lives to the Lord! Some of those children have continued friendship and communication with the children on our team. Praise God for his goodness!

While in Bemidji we believe the Lord shared his plan for us to continue in full time ministry serving the Native American people through family discipleship and intentional relationship building; basically sharing life together. The Native Americans are historically lacking in biblical teaching, training, and discipleship. The families are so broken and hurting; wrought with drugs, alcohol, poverty, and abuse. We believe the Lord has called us to be a steady light and example, walking side-by-side with them through life’s difficulties while teaching & showing them what God’s word has to say about living righteously before Him and with Him.

We would be honored to have you partner with us on this incredible journey as we bring the healing of the gospel to this people group. We have one more training school to complete – The School of Evangelism before starting the journey of discipleship with the Native Americans. This second class follows the same format as the first with twelve weeks of lecture followed by a 6-8 week outreach trip. The cost of the lecture portion is $9,200 and includes the teaching, room & board, and all of our meals for our entire family. We are not allowed to hold an outside job while in the school. We covered the lecture portion of our first class from our savings and have enough left to cover approximately one-third of this second class leaving us in need of $5,500. We are asking you to pray. Seek the Lord to see if he would have you to partner with us through prayer and/or giving. Please, above all else we are asking for prayer. The money will come in time, but the vision God has given us will only succeed with much prayer from faithful brothers and sisters in Christ  like you.

The next class begins in just two weeks – January 3, 2022. We know this is a big goal, but we also know we serve a VERY BIG GOD. If you would like to follow us as we embark on this exciting journey, leave a comment with your email address and we will add you to our newsletter.

Thank you and God bless you,

Erik, Melissa, Alex,
