How often does one get to be the first person in history to do something?
Well, that's the opportunity I have to make the first ever recording of the remarkably beautiful violin sonatas by the 18th-century violinist-composer, Pietro Castrucci.
Virtually forgotten for centuries, Castrucci was the concertmaster of George Frideric Handel's orchestra in London for 20 years, which is when he composed these 12 masterpieces. The only published edition is the original--from 1718!
Distinguished recording company, Centaur Records, has invited me and my accomplished collaborator on harpsichord, Pamela Palmer Jones, to make the first complete recording of these dramatic, expressive compositions in the spring of 2021.
The funds we are seeking in the next 90 days will enable us to cover the costs of the entire project. The first step is to create a master audio file, which we will record at Libby Gardner Concert Hall at the University of Utah School of Music. Centaur will then produce the CDs and downloads, and market and distribute this history-making recording.
Additionally, we will utilize what we have learned from researching this music for pedagogical purposes, developing workshops and master classes for university music students. I should mention that neither Pam nor I will use any of the money we raise for ourselves. It all goes into production!
