"First Snow" Music Video Fundraiser

Hi, my name is Ross Koopmans, I am a composer, producer and performer working under the stage name Ross K. I am currently in Vancouver, Canada - finishing my second album entitled 'Takaya'. The album's title comes from a sacred lone wolf that lived on Discovery Island, a remote island off of the West Coast of Canada, across from my childhood home in Victoria. The wolf, an animal I have had a long-standing fascination for, symbolizes for me significant themes to the record - spiritual connection to the natural world, solitude, introspection and inner strength.

In addition, throughout the record are pieces of music that are connected to specific remote locations on the West Coast that are significant to my past. Where I have stood and had a transcendental experience with the landscape, not unlike Takaya. The music has either been made to express these spaces or the spaces have influenced the music's creation.

This has been a project 2 years in the making and I am thrilled to be at the cusp of it's release into the world.

Now - I am embarking on a film project for the album's first single - "First Snow". I have returned to Canada to reconnect with the landscapes significant to this song and to develop the concept for the film.

Joffre Lake, BC

"First Snow" - associated with Joffre Lake in the interior of BC - captures the feeling of first snow - a liminal state between Fall and Winter and the ethereal beauty we experience in that moment. It is a transformative piece that sets the tone for the whole record - exploring atmospheric ambient and percussive groove-driven sound worlds.

Kinui Oiwa, contemporary dancer

For this video, I will be working with contemporary dancer Kinui Oiwa. Trained in Japan and the PNSD Rosella Hightower in France, Kinui has worked with Balletto di Roma and currently, the progressive Ouro Collective.

The film will be co-directed by David Ehrenreich who has worked with many established acts including Destroyer and Jayda G, having work often featured on NOWNESS.
