I attended a segregated school in Slovakia in my early years of education and now receiving an offer to study MPhil in Criminology at the University of Cambridge is proof.
Proof that exclusion was never about ability.
Proof that segregation was never about merit.
Proof that we are always capable of more than the limits imposed on us.
The issue was never ability. It is access. When Roma students are given opportunity, we do not just participate — we excel.
This means so much to me, not only personally, but also because it represents a historic moment for Roma representation in accessing elite education. It feels like a great honour and responsibility and I am incredibly proud to have reached this point.
However, I am facing a significant challenge regarding funding. Unfortunately, the student loan will not fully cover the cost of studying at Cambridge and at the moment this is the main barrier to me.
This is a historic step for the next generation of Roma. This isn’t about charity - it’s about access.
Right now, there are talented, driven Roma students being held back not by lack of effort or ambition, but by structural barriers: limited resources, fewer opportunities and systems that weren’t built with them in mind. This campaign is about changing that.
It’s about opening doors that have too often been closed. It’s about representation in spaces where voices have been missing. It’s about creating pathways so that potential isn’t wasted simply because access wasn’t there.
Your support isn’t a handout. It’s an investment in equity, in opportunity and in a future that includes more Roma at the table.
If you believe in breaking down barriers and building something more inclusive, please consider contributing or sharing.
Together, we’re shifting what’s possible.
