“First Night in Care” Project
We’re pleased to share that the young people of Tan Y Gaer School through QEwC - Quality Education with Care have started a “First Night in Care” project, which they are developing alongside the amazing team at Youth Shedz Cymru as part of their first community project.
Two of their amazing young people have designed and created the beautiful bags you can see in the photo.
The aim is to donate these bags to care homes so they can be given to children moving into care for the very first time — offering comfort, reassurance, and a sense of belonging during a difficult moment.
Each bag will be filled with items chosen by their young people themselves — things they say they wish they’d had on their own first night in care. Suggested items include:
✨ Fidget spinners or sensory items (designed and 3d printed by the kids themselves)
✨ A small torch
✨ Toiletries
✨ Cosy socks or a little blanket
✨ A notebook and pens
✨ A stress ball
✨ A positive message card from another young person
Before moving to the next stage, we’re hoping to gather support to raise funds to pay for the blank bags for the kids to print and for things to go into the bags.
Your support could make a meaningful difference to a young person’s first night in care.
Thank you!
** This weeks GoFunde Me takeover is Denbigh Youth Shed who will be doing a Great Orme Sponsored walk on Saturday the 23rd May - all funds raised between now and a week after that will be attributed to their fund raising efforts for their First Night in Care Packs ❤️**
