Menja and Telo Albert are flying for the first time, and their first trip is from Madagascar to the US! They've done so much for research and conservation, working on projects from lemurs to mosquitoes to humans, and they have supported researchers and students in and around Ranomafana National Park (RNP) for decades. They are both trailblazers, too: Menja was the first female bushcamp cook, and then the first female research technician, in RNP. Telo Albert is the Ampanjaka (king) of the village of Ambatolahy, where much of the research station staff and techs live.
Their trip to the US will include a few stops. The itinerary is still being arranged, but they will visit several parks so they can see the biodiversity the US has to offer. They'll also get a behind-the-scenes tour of a zoo in Arizona, where they'll learn husbandry/captive care practices that the zoo uses with their lemurs, and talk to the zoo staff about what they've learned from their extensive experience with wild lemurs.
I would be grateful for any help you all can offer. The funds will be used for the following (to stick to the timeline, I will pay upfront, regardless of how much we have at the time):
$800: Passports and visas: these have been acquired. Funds were used for passports, photos, lodging and transportation on multiple trips to the capital for photos, visa interviews, etc. (purchased!)
$4141: Roundtrip airfare from Madagascar to JFK, for two (purchased!)
$1000: Roundtrip airfare from JFK to Arizona, for two (purchased!)
$585: Hotel at Grand Canyon, for two (purchased!)
$1000: Food and other misc. items
