First Generation Student Pursuing Her Master's at Columbia

From community college to U.C. Davis, my journey has been one of growth, discovery, and relentless determination. What started as a simple dream of becoming a dietitian transformed into a passion for the science of nutrigenetics—the study of how genetics and nutrition intersect to improve health outcomes.

At U.C. Davis, I fell in love with research, mastering challenging science courses and earning top grades. My professors describe me as brilliant, dedicated, and tenacious. I developed innovative study methods, founded and led initiatives like Kids in Nutrition (a children’s nutrition education program), and juggled two jobs—all while running marathons and refining graduate school applications. This drive has prepared me to take the next step: the Columbia University’s Master's in Human Nutrition.

This one-year program will allow me to contribute to groundbreaking research aimed at reducing the prevalence of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. The rates of these conditions are on the rise--and the more we learn about genetic predispositions, the more we can reduce these rates. However, to fully dedicate myself to this rigorous program, I need your support.
