Hi, my name is Julianne and I became aware of Mimyk's desperate situation last Friday afternoon. Mimyk is a young trans man, originally from Ohio. Like many trans youth, their parents are not accepting or supportive of their truth. In desperation, he and a few friends moved to Michigan. With no support, financially or otherwise, Mimyk has found themselves in a situation of hotel living, insufficient jobs and food scarcity among other desperate living conditions. Fortunately, when I became aware of them and all their belonging sitting in a Red Roof Inn parking lot I acted on impulse and picked them up and brought them into my home. As a mom, my initial thoughts of meeting the basic needs of shelter, clothes, food, a warm bed could be immediately met. But what next? I'm at a loss. The resources in Oakland County for unhoused people is a bureaucratic mess. The good news is Mimyk is a kind, good hearted person who desires to make a life for themselves. With some direction and guidance, I truly believe that is achievable. They have already been on one interview and are filling out applications and making plans as we speak. The need is housing. We will need to set them up in a room to rent, apartment to share, etc. The burden of accumulating the deposits and first month or two of rent is why we decided a GoFundMe was necessary. If you find it in your heart to contribute to helping Mimyk have a fresh start, my family and I will help them with these tough transitions that lay ahead.
