First, we want to thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for sending your positive thoughts our way.
Early Monday morning, a massive fire ignited in downtown Valparaiso, Chile in the building where our band’s practice space and equipment storage is located. The entire building burned to the ground taking with it all of our instruments and gear – guitars, drum sets, amps, basses, microphones, speakers, sounds boards… everything that was in that building is gone. In total, we lost over $24,000 worth of equipment.
Our practice space was shared by four bands – Pia Zapata (our band), Pavez y los Inseguros, Mora Lucay, and Radicales Libres. The building was a second home for many other musicians who also lost all of their instruments and gear in the fire. It’s been a devastating blow for many.
We’re so thankful that no one was hurt in the fire, and that we only lost material things. Instruments are a strange thing though. Sure, they can be replaced, but, at the same time, they become a part of you. You put so much time, effort and love into them – tuning them, fixing them, cleaning them, carrying them on your back, lugging them on crowded buses and, of course, playing them. It hurts to see them go. Our instruments give us that much-needed escape from the daily grind. They bring us so much happiness.
It’s not going to be easy to come back from losing all of our instruments at once, but we’re determined. We’re reaching out to humbly request your help in getting us back on our feet, getting us back into the music world again.
Anything helps and every little bit will go a long way. We sincerely appreciate all of your support. It means so much to hear from all of you.
As my dad always says, “Shit, god damn, get off your ass and jam!” And, that’s exactly what we’re going to do.
