Weaving Earth Years 1 & 2

I seek to contribute to a world in which we live as community members with the earth and all its many wonders. In which we get curious about learning how to live sustainably interconnected lives with our planet, connected to sustain and uplift human cultural diversity alongside biodiversity.

Inspired by three transformative reading experiences (Bill Plotkin's Nature and the Human Soul, Starhawk's Fifth Sacred Thing and Daniel Quinn's Ishmael) and Joanna Macy's Work That Reconnects through a study of her book Active Hope, as well as my own internal pull towards the trees and a greater connectivity of the human family to the entirety of our natural world, I set off on a journey to find deeper connection and earth-centered wisdom.

I have an opportunity this year to learn in this way at Weaving Earth school for relational education. (www.weavingearth.com) For 9 months, through courses in wild tending, animal tracking, bird language, permaculture design, and living part time on the land in West Sonoma County, I will learn a nature connected curriculum that I can take out into the world and share it with children and adults living in communities who have, through our industrial and digital age, been detached from the earth family to which we belong. It is my vision to create avenues through which intergenerational groups of people  come together to encounter one another's humanity through our collective reciprocal relationship with our planet. I see gatherings at a retreat space and permaculture garden in the woods where innovative social justice organizations come to reconnect and uplift their mission through shared garden-harvested and communally prepared meals, among other ideas, of which I know many more will  emerge once I'm immersed in the program.

The program runs September through May and the cost of tuition, which covers all classes, part time housing and food for the 9 months is $9,750. I have already paid a down payment of $1,750 and I'm reaching out to my beloved community to support me in raising the remaining $8,000 so that I can focus my currently limited financial resources on my move and living in Sonoma County, and other ongoing expenses. My next payment is $700 in September.

Being a part of this connective work is about all of us and our planet. Your support in funding my nature connection year would be a direct contribution to my growth and learning of skills I'll immediately be sharing with the kids I plan to work with part time, as well as every person I come in contact with. In return for your generosity I will take you on a hike and share my growing knowledge with you! Or perhaps you'll get a gift made from medicinal plants I forage!

Please give what warms your heart to contribute. All amounts are greatly welcomed <3
