Nathan Pickard is a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Williston Fire Department and needs a Liver Transplant.  Nathan has given nearly his entire adult life to helping others as a Firefighter/Paramedic and now needs your help.  While it appears that Nathan will receive a live liver transplant from his wife Emily, he needs assistance with home expenses and medical expenses.  Nathan has been out of work since March 6th due to his illness and has used up his accrued time and donated time from other employees so assistance is needed immediately.  Nathan and Emily have 6 children, 5 of which are still living at home.  With Emily expected to be the liver donor, she also will not be able to work.  It is expected that recovery will take the both of them to near the New Year before either of them would be able to return to work.  Emily also gives back to her community by volunteering as a Emergency Medical Technician.

Nathan has what is called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis which is a disease of the bile ducts.  Bile ducts carry the digestive liquid from the liver to the small intestine.  In Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, inflammation causes scars within the bile ducts making the bile ducts hard and narrow, gradually causing serious liver damage.    It can eventually lead to liver failure, repeated infections, and tumors of the bile duct or liver.  A liver transplant is the only known cure of the advanced Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis.
