Support Firebird's Journey to Fringe Festival

This AUGUST The Firebird Project is taking a new devised piece “if i live until i be a man” (created by Rae Bell, Zoe Senese-Grossberg, and Sophie Falvey) to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We are very excited to produce this innovative work as well as to make Firebird’s presence known at the esteemed Edinburgh Fringe Festival -- but we need YOUR HELP! We are raising $2000 to cover many of our Fringe expenses. We are a small and scrappy group of collaborators, dedicated to producing vital work. ABOUT THE PLAY

"An if I live until I be a man / I’ll win our ancient right in France again / Or die a soldier, as I lived a king." - Prince Edward in William Shakespeare’s Richard III

In the background of Shakespeare's Richard III and the footnotes of history, Prince Edward and his younger brother Prince Richard were taken to the Tower of London by their uncle Richard in preparation for Edward’s coronation. By the end of the summer their uncle was crowned as the infamous Richard III and the princes were never seen again. A comedic, playfully anachronistic, unsettling exploration of childhood during perpetual war, this two-hander traces the 15th century through post-9/11 America, imagining the princes' final months as they fight, play, and await coronation or execution.

Devised through historical research and our memories of imaginative play while growing up during the war on terror, this one act explores the conflict between the perceived threat of foreign invasion and the all too real failure of adults at home.

About The Firebird Project

We’ve been producing theater since 2013, with a focus on creating original and accessible theatrical offerings to our longstanding audience community. Many of our artists are longtime repeat collaborators that grew up together, trained together, and learned how to make theater together – this close-knit resident ensemble forms the foundation of our production wing. Our productions examine and deconstruct aspects of the classical canon – from our silicon-valley thriller version of the first robot story ever written, to our Jacobean drama about the boys who played Shakespeare’s women. We want to spark questions like “how and why are stories told and remembered?”, “what gives stories power?”, and “what can the words of people long ago tell us about the lives we live today?”.
