Fire at Father Bob's OutreachHQ
Donation protected
Many people do not realise that the City of Port Phillip has the highest level of public housing in Melbourne, and the Father Bob Foundation is the only major community service for the area.
We prepare community meals for more than 500 people per week, and provide scholarship funds and after-school tutoring programs to 100-200 local students per week. In addition, we provide advocacy and innovation, legal services, material, emotional and social support for the homeless.
In August 2016, a fire tore through our HQ, essentially destroying the facility. Since then, we have raised more than $17,000 thanks to the generous support of the community. We are back up and running – but we’re still not back at full steam, given all of our freezers and much of our stock was destroyed.
We were lucky to receive $100,000 from the Andrew’s Government, to continue our advocacy and support services while we repaired the critical damage from the fire. However, we are in desperate need of a new place to continue to provide critically needed services to those most vulnerable.
Currently, per month we are able to deliver sit down meals (1,366), take away meals (1,258), food hampers (709) and assistance to people (1,573). But with a new facility, we’d be able to extend these services, purpose build a new commercial kitchen and increase our storage capacity.
Please help us in our mission to ensure that no one is left behind.
