Fire Took Our Home: Support Jose's Family

Hi, my name is Jose Salas, and I’m reaching out for help after a devastating fire destroyed the home my family was renting. On January 7, 2025, a fire broke out at the back house we were renting on 116 West Harriet Street in Altadena, and it is still currently active. In a matter of hours, we lost everything—our home, personal belongings, and my laptop, which I depend on to finish my degree.

I’m originally from Wilmington, California, but we moved to Altadena when my firstborn daughter arrived. We thought it was a great place to build a future, and it became our home—a place where we could make memories as a family. Now, all of that is gone in an instant, and we’re left trying to figure out how to rebuild.

I work full-time as a pharmacy technician and am also pursuing my degree in Healthcare Management through Bellevue University, all while raising my 2-year-old daughter with my wife.

What we’ve lost:

- Our home and everything inside it

- My laptop, which is essential for continuing my degree and working

- Clothes and essential items for myself, my wife, and our daughter

- Family photos, important documents, and irreplaceable memories

This has been one of the hardest experiences we’ve ever faced. While we are doing everything we can to stay strong for each other, we simply don’t have the means to recover on our own. That’s why I’m reaching out to you for help.

- Replacing essential items, like clothing and school supplies

- Getting us back on our feet after losing everything

- If possible, helping us secure **new housing** so we can have a place to call home again
