Our Father’s Day turned into a nightmare.

On 15 June, we went to a local festival in the park to celebrate Father’s Day as a family — myself, my husband, and our two children. There was music, food, and a lovely atmosphere. It was meant to be a joyful day together.

In the middle of the event, my phone rang. It was our letting agent.

“Your house is on fire.”

At first, I thought it must be some kind of mistake. We rushed back as fast as we could — only to find the road blocked by fire engines, police cars, and a crowd of people. Our rented home was in flames.

The upstairs was completely destroyed by fire. The downstairs was flooded with thousands of litres of water. We lost everything — clothes, furniture, children’s toys, personal items.

Once the fire brigade and police had left, Our landlord boarded up the windows, locked the doors, and simply drove away — leaving us, late in the evening, with two traumatised children, quite literally on the street. She told us we should go to a hotel.

We were in shock.

My brother drove 200 miles that night to pick us up and helped pay for a hotel, because we were in such deep shock that we couldn’t even use our phones to book it ourselves.

We’ve always lived simply and worked hard to provide a stable life for our children. But now, we’re left with nothing and we are trying to rebuild from scratch.
