Caregiver Needs Our Help After Devastating Fire
My name is Conni and I am disabled. One of my caregivers, Chevel, her sister, and niece lost all their belongings when their apartment building burned on Monday, Feb. 3rd. She has only been in Omaha since last October and doesn’t know many people yet and needs our help.
She and her sister thought they had renter's insurance because it was required by their apartment, and they paid the monthly premium along with their rent. Turns out it was only for liability and not their belongings. They are extremely grateful to be alive but are overwhelmed with the daunting task of finding a new place to live, getting clothes, shoes, and coats to wear, replacing all their kitchen and bathroom supplies, finding furniture, and the list goes on.
On top of that, the temporary apartment they were put up in for 5 days was broken into this past Wednesday night, Feb. 5th. She was sleeping on an air mattress in the living room when she awoke to the sound of someone breaking in through the balcony. She screamed when she saw the person, and he ran off. Luckily, she was not attacked, but she is traumatized because of this.
Any donations will be used to help them with a deposit on a new place to rent, clothing, household items, furniture, etc. No matter how large or small the amount, every bit will help.
Thanks in advance for any donation you can make.
