Fire Took All: Aid Rocio and Juan Pablo
Donation protected
My name is Sara Catalina Botero Carrizosa (some know me as Sara and others by Catalina). I am from Bogota, Colombia, but I currently reside in Lafayette, IN, as a student at Purdue. I decided to put together this GoFundMe for Edna Rocio Villareal (mother) and Juan Pablo Herrera (6 yrs old son). For context, she is the sister of my cousin's wife, and they live in Neiva, Huila (Colombia). She has been working really hard to sustain herself and her son while also paying for the house they live in (her husband abandoned them for another woman after having purchased their house).
As of two weeks ago, Rocio is living a nightmare. At 6 am on Monday, December 2nd, she took her son to drop him off at her grandparents' before going to work (she generally lets her son sleep for a bit longer, and later her grandfather picks him up). In the course of the day, she received a call from one of her neighbors letting her know that her house was in active flames. When the fire department arrived, it was too late; her house was burnt to the ground. The firemen explained that the incident had started due to a short circuit in a socket initiated by an electrical fluctuation. If she had not changed her routine that morning, she could have also lost her son. We praise God that no one was injured or lost! However, as expected, she is left with no other material possession than the clothes she and her son were wearing that day, in addition to a ticking debt that insurance will not cover.
Thus, I am reaching out to you to try to help us gather at least 5000 USD. I would like you to know that any money in dollars stretches incredibly far in Colombia (a US dollar is roughly 4 times more in Colombian pesos). This money will be used for Rocio and Juan Pablo's relocation and any necessities that include partial loan payment, food, and clothing. I fully appreciate all your help and hope that The Lord multiplies any gift that you choose to donate.
