July 4th , 2020 - Tragedy hit my my most beloved childhood friend of the past 20 years & her life partner’s home. Annie Bohem & Shawn Pigrum.
Their home took a blaze in the middle of the night into a vast fire ...destroying everything they own. Tragically losing their companion cat, Turbo.
The unforseen circumstances of losing a pet and childhood home is unfathomable , but we are all unbelievably grateful that Annie , Shawn, and their 4 other pets ( Penny, Happy ,Cordelia , & Peaches ) were each able to escape safely.
To whoever does not know this family personally, I would love to share the following information about Shawn, Annie , & their Family :
I have known Annie and her parents for over 20 years. Annie and her Parents are so giving without realizing it or expecting anything in return. If you are Annie’s close friend then Annie and her parents will ride for you hard. To me and many of Annie’s friends, they are very much a second set of parents & Annie is an additional sibling. The amount they have done for me, Adriana , has positively impacted my life in ways they may not know, because being that kind is naturally within them. This family is a true hope for humanity .
Shawn Pigram ,neighbor & friend, is an Oakland / Bay area born and raised native. He is an amazing Black creative & Star on the rise. He is an essential worker and hero during this time of COVID-19. What he does for work is not easy and puts him at risk, but he does it with a big smile. He is a positive force to be around. He is an above and beyond boyfriend/life partner, Dog & Cat dad, uncle , neighbor...you name it.
Annie and Shawn both moved into Annie’s childhood home in Yuba City recently .It can be challenging to live in Yuba City, Ca , at times, knowing that there are many people within the area who oppose the rights of marginalized people, but the home they had here was an escape & sanctuary. They created a true safe space for themselves, their pets, & their long term future. They were so happy & proud to have it and to be apart of the Yuba City - Yuba Sutter community.
I hope & I pray that we as a community can come together for this amazing family.
Let's fight for them & let's help them in securing them getting that magical place back. We NEED Shawn & Annie on this block . We need more people like those two. We need more people like Annie’s parents. To support this cause & to support their love , would mean we all get the beautiful gift of having them here with us.
