Fire relief Sankranti Bazar, Nepal

Donation protected
I am hoping you can make a donation to help victims of a huge fire in a village in Nepal.

28 houses were destroyed on December 16 in Sankranti Bazar, in a remote part of Nepal where I did part of my training when I was in the US Peace Corps in 1978-1979. Fortunately nobody was injured in the 71 families living in those houses.

Much of Nepal has still barely recovered from the terrible earthquake of April, 2015, so there are very limited resources to help these people get back on their feet. Nepal is a very poor country. The estimated total damage to the houses, which made up 20% of the town, was $300,000 to $450,000. The houses and belongings were not insured. Any aid to the town is most likely to come from grassroots sources like this.

I have been in contact with a friend from Sankranti Bazar. He will give the donated money in equal shares to the home owners and families. An anonymous  person has offered to match the first $2000 of donations.

The people of Sankranti Bazar were open and welcoming to me and other Peace Corps volunteers, I hope to pay back their warmth and generosity.
