Last night (September 7th), my boyfriend and I went to my friends house to watch a movie and bake cookies. We parked our car on the street next to a palm tree. Around one to two AM when the movie ended we were leaving and noticed the state of our car. My heart dropped as we approached and realized what had happened, the smell from the fire was gut wrenching. We called 911 and they redirected us to the fire department, who said there had been a palm tree fire that also caught a car on fire that they put out. They didn't investigate what caught that tree, and nothing else, on fire. We called our insurance company with the fire report details, and they informed us we were not covered/insured for "acts of god" even though we thought we had comprehensive coverage. This is a nightmare. We had to get it towed the 30 miles from LA where we were visiting back to Orange County, which cost $300 more that we don't have. I was about to start working for a job position that wouldve been life changing, but now I dont have a car. My boyfriend and I shared this car, he currently works to support us but it was barely enough and now he wont be able to get to work. We don't know what to do, so we were told to try gofundme. Asking for help is a last resort. We struggled all year to get jobs in this economy, and were finally just starting to get on our feet. We need help to pay for the loss and damages, the towing, and another vehicle so we can get to work. Im still in a state of shock.
