At 12:40am Saturday, my mother-in-law Tess woke up to her fire alarm blaring and smoke quickly filling her home. A fire started in the garage--within 4 minutes, flames were licking out of the front of the house and up to the bedrooms above. She was home alone as my father-in-law Jeff was out of town, she made it out safely just before the fire department arrived.
Due to the extensive fire, water, and smoke damage to the home, it will not be livable likely for several months while repairs are assessed and started. Most, if not all of their clothing and belongings will be lost due to smoke damage alone. As you can see in the photos below Tess' car also melted in the fire.
Tess, who is a registered nurse has worked for Nebraska Medicine for 39 years now. She has continued to provide care during the COVID-19 outbreak. She has been caring for others for even longer as a mother of four, & a grandmother of two. She is just the best, we are all thankful she is okay.
Jeff, is a licensed arborist & a longstanding member of the Mary Our Queen Men's Club where he volunteers many hours of service. Besides his busy day job, and volunteering for his local community Jeff makes himself available to everyone who needs help.
The love from this family is felt in every direction.
We are eternally grateful to the firefighters and first responders of Omaha Fire Department engines #52, #60, #61, and T-#61 along with LA-#30, for saving the structure of their home.
It is an especially tough time to be asking for your help. This family has done so much for so many others. I reach out to you for any assistance you could provide.
We are very thankful for the kind words and support everyone has been throwing their way.
I will keep adding updates as we navigate this challenging time.
Thank you.
