Emergency fire relief for NS migrant worker&family

Donation protected
On Tuesday, November 17th, a fire destroyed the family home of a Nova Scotia migrant worker and his family in Jamaica. Please contribute to help them get back on their feet.

For close to a decade, Maurice (whose name has been changed to protect his identity) has been coming to Nova Scotia as a migrant worker. Each year, he works eight months of the year as a migrant fruit worker. Recently, with the end of the season, he flew back to Jamaica to be reunited with his wife and three kids. Sadly, not long after he returned, tragedy struck the family. They lost everything except the clothes on their backs in the fire. The situation has been devastating for the family. Thankfully, however, no one was hurt.

Migrant workers like Maurice are part of our community and we're calling on our community to show up for them right now, in the spirit of mutual aid and solidarity.

“My family at the moment is separated, but I'm working assiduously to get back on my feet and put a roof over my kids and my family's head. Now we don't even have clothes... I appreciate the help. Thank you, thank you, thank you,” says Maurice.

Funds will be used for:
- rebuilding their home
- food
- furniture, clothes, etc.

Thanks to everyone who's contributed so far!
