Fire relief for José Ramirez

Dear SF Day community & friends of José,

What an overwhelming and humbling response from our community, from far and wide across the country and across the ages. In just a few short days we have received over 200 gifts from families, faculty, staff, former colleagues, founders, grandparents, alumni and their families, and current students.

All surpassing our goal and raising close to $35,000 to date. Thank you.

When we met this morning to share the news with Jose, he was overwhelmed with gratitude. “Thank you. I am truly humbled by the support from our community. It’s more than I could ever imagine or express. It’s been less than a week since the fire, and in such a short time you have all given me so much comfort through your generosity. Thank you. I feel really happy to be part of this family. This is where I want to be.”

We will leave the GoFundMe open until Saturday for those who wish to contribute.

Dear SF Day community & friends of José,

On Friday, January 13, José Ramirez lost everything to a fire in his apartment building that displaced 22 San Franciscans. Thankfully, José and his neighbors made it out of the fire safely.

Since the school's founding, José has served as a member of our facilities and maintenance team and is a daily figure in the lives of every member of the SF Day community. This is the second time José has lost everything to a house fire.

The school has thankfully been able to provide housing for José next to campus in a recently vacated faculty/staff housing unit and we are committed to supporting José until he is fully settled again. As the smoke damage to his apartment was so extensive, José expects a total loss of his belongings.

We are hoping now to rally our community to support José for near-term financial needs as he looks to replace furniture, household items, clothing, and more as he awaits insurance claims.
