Fire Recovery Fund for Altadena Artist Collective ‘JJU’

Michelle, Derrick, John, Ramiro, Pam, Kevin, Yara, Matt, Guthrie, Val & all 7 cats have been displaced and need of immediate financial assistance.

Late Tuesday night, their beloved home on Santa Anita Avenue in Altadena was destroyed by the Eaton Fire, burned down to the porch tiles in a matter of minutes. All are in shock and disbelief that their home and artist sanctuary is gone and all of their personal belongings, clothing, furniture and irreplaceable artwork spanning decades are lost forever.

Lovingly dubbed “JJU (John Joyce University),” this house was more than just a house; it touched all who visited the property. Throughout the years, JJU has been a home to a multitude of creatives; artists, musicians, botanists, writers, designers + more — and of course — their beloved pets. We remember fondly the love and community that was cultivated within these walls, not to mention a community gallery and performance space throughout the years. The memory of this house will be deeply mourned for years to come.

No donation is too small; we are raising funds to support JJU Residents through this difficult time.

Our hearts ache for our Altadena family, and we will make every effort to rebuild this vibrant and special community. Please share far and wide, let’s get these incredible people back on their feet!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,

~ Beth Imai (former JJU resident & musician)
