FIRE! Mary Green's house - roof & contents ruined
Fire is a beast and a thief - it steals and destroys without mercy. Fire swept through Mary Green's attic Sunday morning, July 25, 2021, destroying the contents and the roof structure itself. Mary and her dog Max escaped without injury so the most important piece of this news is good. However, the fire and smoke and water destroyed Mary's attic and roof structure and much of the living area ; her clothing and household items were destroyed also.
The Green family has lived in Buffalo Creek since the 1800's and many of you shop or sight-see at Green's Mercantile. The store, also a U.S. Post Office, and a gas station, has been the cornerstone of Buffalo Creek since the early days and Mary has devotedly kept that store and post office open year round (with hardly a vacation) for residents and campers and hikers and sight-seers. Mary can't live in the house and it's dangerous to even enter - she's living elsewhere and both she and Max need to replace clothing and daily household items on top of rebuilding costs. She won't ask herself so I'm asking...
If you've shopped at Green's, mailed a letter at the post office, bought a hunting license, gawked at the antique cash register and phone booth, or just think it's a cool historic site and wondered "Gee, who keeps that store running?"... please think about what the Green family means to this community and give what you can. As you know, even a few dollars helps so take a minute to contribute. THANK YOU!
