I’m trying to raise money for my nephew, Daniel Perez. His mother, Vanessa Vasiloff Martinez, died last year after a very long battle with kidney disease. Daniel was responsible for ensuring she made it to her dialysis treatments and to her other medical appointments for over a decade. After her death, he was left to keep the household going, including caring for his father who suffers from dementia.

This past Friday, there was a fire that rendered their house uninhabitable; more pictures forthcoming. The contents of the house were demolished or left unusable. Thankfully, he and his father survived, as did some of the many animals Vanessa took in to shelter, and that Daniel has continued to care for after her death. The insurance on the home was lapsed, and they are left with nothing. Daniel, his father, and the surviving pets are currently residing in a motel.

Daniel is hardworking and has been employed at Sam’s for 17 years and takes classes part-time to earn his degree. They will have to find shelter that will accommodate their surviving pets. I am helping all that I can, but I am only one person. So much is required to live life... food, clothing, shelter, and all that goes along with that; think of everything that you use and touch on a daily basis.
