Fire Leaves Shana's Family Homeless

My name is Shana. I am a single/solo disabled mama to a beautiful 7-year-old daughter, Jordyn, and my fur baby, Gabby. Just after midnight on Tuesday, June 24, we were getting ready for bed in the basement, as my central A/C stopped working and it's been a very hot Michigan summer. Well, I hear something and run upstairs to find my home of 15 years is on fire. I got my daughter out stat. I was so lucky my phone was in my pocket and not on the charger, like it normally is before bedtime. So I called 911, and it felt like years for them to get there. I had to get Jordyn out safely first, dial 911 while having an anxiety, panic, and any kind of attack you can think of. I had to make the heartbreaking decision to leave my fur baby in the house because she is old and knew it was bedtime and wouldn't just come upstairs. She had a sweet setup down there with everything she needed. I was scared by the time I got back from the basement the fire would be coming my way even though it was on the opposite side of the kitchen. The firefighters arrived and they had Jordyn, so I begged them to try to save Gabby. They dragged me down the sidewalk where I couldn't watch my home in flames and just cry but thankful Jordyn and I got out alive and unhurt. A few minutes later, here comes Gabby with a firefighter! Praise the Lord! I couldn't stop crying, and a neighbor got a leash for her. They seemed to get it out quickly that they gave me my car keys, and I was able to get my backpack that has my ID and whatever in it and was grateful for that. I had to drive to my mom's house, homeless with only the clothes on our backs (pjs), but we were alive and okay. She only got a text saying my house is on fire. The biggest problem is just last month, my homeowners insurance was dropped from State Farm because I need a new roof. I had plans on getting one and it was in the process, but I needed Jordyn to help me clean up so they could get in the attic (she slept in my room on the side of the bed with the closet where you get into the attic is) and she had all kinds of her stuff there. I said let's just shove it all under the bed for now. The main thing was I had plumbing done in the basement, as I had a blockage and that needed to be completely cleaned up from sewage and no health hazard. I cleaned up most of it, but then my mom was septic, in the ICU at the hospital for over a month, so I was hardly home. I needed something stronger than from the dollar store and was so worn out and in pain (thank you several chronic illnesses) that she had come home and I was just about to go to a real store and this happened. I was so close to the new roof, but I have NO homeowners insurance because of that. It took me a while to figure out what I was going to do since funds are limited since I only get social security disability, which I am grateful for. It's not enough though. Again, I have NEVER received child support or anything. My dad passed away unexpectedly last year, and I took on a lot of that cost and was trying to get my car fixed that was very expensive. My checking account is in the negative. I have been praying to God almost all day and night and slept the majority of this first week so it didn't have to be real.

I am NOT the type to ask for anything, especially money. Even the Fire Marshall suggested I do this. I bounced my account in the winter on a GoFundMe for a house at the entrance of my sub that was burned to the ground. An older man got out but went back in for his dog, Lexi, (which most people know that was my first dog's name and my first baby) and he ended up not making it out. His wife's urn was unharmed, and they were laid to rest together. I also bounced my account trying to tithe to church.

I am in the negative most of the month. I still have my dad's storage unit I'll need to go through and may be able to use more than I thought and hopefully go through everything and find the hidden goods in what looks like trash (Thanks Dad lol). I hate to do this, but I need help. Any amount is appreciated. I'm in so much medical debt, my credit cards from my dad's stuff, behind on bills. I don't have much support and have to worry about Jordyn. I just got all her school supplies, and I just pray some of our belongings can be saved and taken to my mom's house to be washed until clean. I am just so thankful to God that all 3 of us got out alive and unharmed physically. I appreciate your prayers and support. God bless you.
