Michael Hanson of Boulder Creek CA is in the burn unit at Valley Medical Center in San Jose CA with third-degree burns across his head, face, torso and arm after attempting to save the life of his stepfather from a house fire October 19. Hearing the screams for help of the senior citizen, who had just had a leg amputated at the knee, Michael seriously damaged his own knee and suffered deep cuts to his hand breaking through a window in an attempt to extract his relative from a sudden early morning house fire, but was unable to battle his way through the flames, and now, because of his heroic act of love, faces in the best scenario a long and painful recovery and the loss of his home. Known as a hardworking man who acted as the sole caretaker of his stepfather, Michael s described "a great guy, humble and caring, who always cares for others before himself. When he can see others happy, that's when he is happy. He's the best guy in the world." Another described him as "such a totally generous guy." Any generosity people can muster for this hero in need will be greatly appreciated.
