A few months ago, my apartment burned down.
Luckily, I was not there, but I lost about 90% of my possessions, unfortunately with no renter’s insurance. One cat suffered severe burns that were as costly as they were lingering to treat, and although they are thought to have escaped off the open patio, a few cats I haven’t seen since that day.
Immediately, my wonderful community of family and friends banded together to make sure I was taken care of. Almost every single good thing that happened to me in the following months has been the result of the generosity and empathy of my fellows.
I have since relocated into a nearby apartment, and although I have managed to recuperate many furnishings, some of the important big ticket items I used to have still need replacing (regular/robot vacuum, washer/dryer, VCR/media, tablet, speakers/headphones, most electronics, etc.) as well as the minutiae of what fills a household (cleaning tools and hardware, shelving and storage, frames, organizational items, dishes, and food).
If you feel so inclined, I would humbly and gladly accept whatever amount you feel able to give, and truly, any amount helps in recuperative efforts such as this.
It is not only physically and materially helpful, but to even have my story heard is incredibly affecting, and healing.
Thank you for listening.
