Hi, my name is Dr. Rochelle Gaston Malone, mother to Fallen Fire Fighter Jordan Ellis Melton. On July 12, 2023, shortly after beginning his shift at Birmingham Fire Station #9, while performing routine maintenance in the station’s bay area, a gunman entered through the open bay door and opened fire. Jordan passed away five days later, as a result of his injuries, on July 17, 2023.
The Jordan E. Melton Memorial Crusade Fund is an ongoing J.E.M.S. Society initiative that provides support to mothers that have experienced the tragic loss of their child to gun violence. The J.E.M.S. Society was born from tragedy—but built to be a legacy. What began as a memorial effort to honor Jordan’s life has grown into a movement to address the deep and lasting harm caused by community violence. We focus our efforts on the most impacted—youth, mothers, and underserved neighborhoods
All funds will be utilized by the J.E.M.S. Society (The Jordan E. Melton Empowerment & Mentorship Society), a 501c3 nonprofit organization we have created, for governing this memorial fund in financially assisting families with hardship caused by sudden death of a youth to gun violence. Just as it takes a village to raise a child, collective collaboration such as this is needed to provide a harness of beneficial support to those mothers and families who have been emotionally raped by such a heinous act of violence.
We are optimistic that your commitment to be an active supporter of The J.E.M.S. Society’s Jordan E. Melton Memorial Crusade Fund will make a positive difference in the community and individual homes. Our collective efforts will garner significant financial contributions needed to continue our mission, advocacy and aid, but most importantly promote a culturally environmental change of practicing non-violence to assist in establishing safer communities and lives for our children; Something my son, Fallen Firefighter Jordan E. Melton, pledged his life to do.
Thanks in advance for your generous donation!
