Fire Disaster Relief for Mark and Karen

Hi, we are Nina and Christina and we are fundraising for Mark and Karen.

On the afternoon of Monday, January 30, 2023, Mark and Karen lost their home to an apartment fire at their Upper East Side building, 404 East 63rd Street. The entire building was destroyed in this unfortunate incident, including their most beloved apartment, Number 8.

Karen lived at ‘404, Number 8’ for 41 years. Her door was always open to many who needed respite over those years, and most recently it has been Mark and Karen’s first home as a newly married couple. The 3-alarm fire not only left their apartment in ruins but also took nearly everything they owned. It is a blessing that every tenant and animal made it out of the burning building alive.

Mark and Karen are undeniably generous people who have been there for so many of us during the darkest times of our lives. During these times, some of us even traveled to Number 8 to live or just to sit at the kitchen table and process life. It was truly a sacred space. Many of us would not be where we stand right now if it wasn’t for the guidance, wisdom, kindness, and love that these two offer the world. Now, they need to receive our help.

They are in immediate need of assistance to start putting their lives back together. Many have already reached out wanting to be of service, and so we are starting this page for you to be with them during this time of crisis.

Any amount you can give will go a long way in helping them recover from this tragedy. Your generosity will help them with immediate expenses such as finding a temporary place to stay, buying necessary clothing and personal items, and starting the process of rebuilding their home while continuing their work in both of their creative professional careers.
