On Sunday, September 12th, Niki and Joaquin lost their home and everything in it, due to a fast moving fire that burnt through their neighborhood. They had 15 minutes to evacuate and had to act fast. They quickly grabbed the laundry basket of freshly cleaned clothes, baby pictures of Joaquin and their essential work and school supplies. Joaquin was able to pack an overnight bag of clothes and went to help save the neighbors dogs and his own dog Rainbow. Along with the help of Niki's mom Linda (who happened to be visiting that weekend) they were able to get out of the house safely.

Now as the dust and ash settles they are left with the reality that their house is gone and they have nothing. For the moment, they are staying with some friends as they sort through what to do next. When they are able to secure a new place to live, they will be starting from scratch. They will need all of the basics, such as furniture, appliances, clothing and pet supplies along with a deposit for the new house. While we can't bring back all of Niki's amazing art work, or her picture book filled with memories of her first 18 years, we can help provide some financial support to rebuild their life and start over.
