Fire destroys Rooney family home

My son Tom Rooney and his wife Kathy Ciraolo live in Gouldsboro PA with their 4 kids - Tommy 20, Matthew 19(away in the Navy), Joseph 17 and Samantha 13. 


On Monday February 11th, 2019 around dinner time the interior lights started flickering.  Tom went to check the electrical panel. Kathy looked up at the ceiling in the dining room and in a tiny space between the ceiling and the stove pipe she saw what looked like flames. She alerted Tom. He ran outside with a fire extinguisher, only to realize the entire roof was on fire.  


He ran back inside and got everybody out and called the fire department.  As they were watching their home burn, they realized the family cat was still inside.  Tom ran in and raced to find her.  Hiding and terrified, she bit him several times but he got her out. 


Their house is a total loss. The entire roof burned and caved in and the interior burned and soaked from the water and the snow that fell afterwards.  They were able to salvage some clothing and personal items they ran out with, but everything else was destroyed.


The Red Cross was able to assist in finding the family a hotel to stay in for now.  They need temporary housing until the insurance is decided.  

Friends, family and friends of friends want to help I’m hoping this page will reach them all. Any amount you can spare would be greatly appreciated. This family needs to start over again.
