My wife and I are in our upper 60's and we have worked hard our entire lives to have what little we had. My wife was finally able to retire while I continue to work. Two days before my 68 th birthday, tragedy struck our home. I had gone to work on the graveyard shift and my wife had just gone to bed. Our little dog sleeps in the bed and he came out from under the covers and began a commotion and barking wildly. My wife got up to see what was going on and found that our home was on fire. She was able to get the pup and our two cats from the home and call 911. Though it was only a short time before the fire trucks arrived, it seemed like an eternity. She could only watch our home burn as she borrowed a phone to call me to tell me. I made arrangements so I could be relieved so that I could go home and see how bad it was. I am a Marine Veteran and former Law Enforcement Officer and have seen a lot of things. This devastation is the worse thing I can think of. Everything is either damaged or destroyed by the fire itself or the smoke ash. We thought we had insurance coverage that was to pay the home off if something happened but we are being told now it will only cover about 1/3 of the mortgage leaving us with a problem of no home and possibly very slight chance of being able to replace very much at all.
I don't normally ask for a lot of help but I must now, so anything will be greatly appreciated.
