Hi, my name is Priti, I am 19 years old, and I want to share how the fire in Torremolinos, Málaga, on August 24, 2025, destroyed my family’s dream and my future as a pilot in just a few minutes.

For the past five years, I have been working hard and saving every euro to pursue my dream of becoming a commercial pilot. I was supposed to start flight school in February 2026, but the tuition is €120,000 — far beyond what I had.

In July 2025, my sister and I decided to invest everything we had into opening a restaurant. We combined our savings and took loans, putting more than €70,000 into this project, hoping it would be our family’s source of income and help me slowly pay for my pilot training. We were preparing to open on September 1, 2025.

But on the morning of August 24, around 4:50 a.m., a fire was started in revenge against a nearby bar owner. Within minutes, the entire block of eight restaurants and bars was burning. My whole family — including my 4-year-old brother — was inside painting at the time. We managed to escape, but we lost everything: our phones, passports, cash, and, worst of all, our restaurant.

By the time firefighters arrived, it was all gone. We had no insurance (our appointment was scheduled for August 26), and now, instead of having a dream, we are left with debt and despair.

I don’t want to give up on becoming a pilot, and my sister still dreams of opening her pastry shop one day. But right now, our priority is to recover from this tragedy and pay off the debt that is crushing us.
