Fire at Shelter for Homeless Youth

Tax deductible

Please help Chicago's homeless youth. On January 16, Ujima Village, the Unity Parenting and Counseling shelter for homeless youth had a serious fire. Thankfully nobody was hurt. The cause of the fire has not been determined, and we are in "insurance limbo" right now and are unable to re-open.

Ujima Village is the only emergency homeless shelter for youth in Chicago's south side. We lost everything in our facility. This shelter serves 24 homeless youth each night and we are closed until we can get the facility repaired and back up and running.

We lost all of our appliances, furniture, equipment and bed linens. In addition,  we lost our computer and office equipment. While the building is still standing, everything in our facility was damaged or destroyed.

Unity Parenting and Counseling has been serving Chicago's homeless youth and single mothers for nearly 40 years. The state budget crisis has made our funds very tight and this fire has dramatically impacted how we can help some of Chicago's most vulnerable kids.

Please help us get this important program back up and running. Thank you so much for your help.  Learn more about Unity Parenting and Counseling at our website.
