Fire the farm where most of J&C Petting Zoo live
With sad news today about the devastating fire at the farm where J&C petting Zoo(Maldon Promenade Petting Zoo) keep there beautiful animals. Taking the lives of many of their animals. We would like to offer our thoughts and help.
Not only have animals lives been lost but a wonderful business that rescues animals has been dramatically affected.
Please give what you can to help them continue great work that that we’re doing.

Latest update and some of the animals that have been lost….
Fire investigation has confirmed that the fire likely started with a freezer. The fire once taken hold quickly spread throughout the farm, absolute thanks to the fire service, staff, family & friends who help save countless little animal lives.
We will never forget the beautiful animals that we have lost in such tragic circumstances, some of the little guys kept at our private farm were retired, resting or previous unwanted pets that we tried so hard to care for.
We take every precaution to prevent fire/accidents happening, our appliances are regularly pat tested, we have certified electrician on hand for any problems, regularly have health & safety audits from our own but also external consultants, fire risk assessment regularly carried out, we also received guidance from the fire service two years ago to try & prevent accidental fire. With all this said we still couldn’t prevent an electrical freezer fire but we will do all we can to learn from what has occurred & heart felt apology to our beautiful animals lost, staff, family & of course customers who have all felt this loss.
I list just some of the amazing little personalities that we sadly lost in the fire & prey that they are in peace.
Bonnie & Buddy our amazing cockatoo’s
Mac & Benson our blue & Gold macaws who were regular favourites at our zoo
Banjo & Charlie our bear eyed cockatoos, They both brought lots of smiles to all
Raz our beautiful ecalectus parrot, what an amazing cheeky character he was ♥️
Louie our Amazon, amazing & gentle soul
Nibbles & his girl our amazing African Greys
Keith our kakariki, everyone’s favourite & loved spending time with humans
Kiki & missi our much loved kinkajous
Jake our giant Tortoise, always keeping us on our toes
Sharon & Tracy our meerkats, huge personalities
Jamie, Emma & Flower our trio of retired meerkats
George & curious two boys meerkats
Hugo our armadillo our very own sun queen diva
Sirius & Severus our beautiful skunks
These are just some of the amazing characters & personalities lost. I pay heartfelt love to them all & will miss you all RIP
Thank you all so much for support, we do have little guys still dependant on us & we must ensure we do all we can to support them at this tragic time. Our zoo will re open but we ask for just a little time to grieve this tragedy ♥️xxx

Update from owners
Overnight on the 5th July 2021 we have suffered a devastating fire at our private farm on the Dengie Peninsula, with the help of the fire brigade, friends and family we have managed to save some animals but we have suffered numerous losses.
The fire brigade are currently continuing there investigations as to find out the cause and we are trying to process what has happened.
We do ask for privacy at this time whilst we assess the full extent of the damage and move our unaffected animals to a safe location. We will provide you with an update in due course.
Sincere thanks for all the well wishes so far and we will hopefully get some answers as to what has caused these tragic events.
