Last summer, a fire broke out in the unit upstairs from ours. Luckily the fire was put out and no one was harmed, but the gallons of water used by the firefighters poured down into our apartment. We lost and had to replace several items, and large parts of the apartment were unusable for a month and a half. During that period, we accrued a lot of expenses, including packing costs, electricity costs to remediate the water flooding, cleanup costs, and time off work to deal with the damage.
Our landlord responded by pressuring us to vacate, has so far refused to reduce our rent for the period that the apartment was not usable, is taking us to housing court, and is continuing to charge us late fees for the rent we withheld to ensure repairs would be carried out.
We are raising funds to offset the amount we might have to settle on in housing court.
Thank you for reading! Anything helps <3
