Van Isle 500

On September 2nd 2020 Dave McCallum, Kate Downes & Fiona Elder plan to embark on a 500km road cycle of Vancouver Island..

Since Margaret and Angus Mackenzie started these yearly challenges for the Neil Mackenzie Trust we had always been keen to do something and this year we finally got the courage to do so.  For more information on the challenges with the Neil Mackenzie trust please click this link: https://theneilmackenzietrust.com/2020-challenges/

Our plan is to start in Shawnigan; South Vancouver Island and bike to Port Hardy (North Vancouver Island) over 5 days.  We’ll be stopping in Nanaimo, Courtenay, Sayward, Woss & finally Port Hardy.


We are hoping to have some friends join us along the way and we will  also have a support vehicle (Steve, Bob & the Dogs) who will meet us in the evenings with our gear. Thanks Steve & Bob!!

More information about The Neil Mackenzie Trust: The Neil Mackenzie Trust gives Expedition Grants for challenging adventures worldwide and Educational Expedition Grants for trips related or unrelated to school or university courses. Our Skills Training Grants are awarded to anyone over 14 for outdoor non-competitive courses in Scotland in order to prepare the applicant to be able to go into challenging situations safely and with confidence. Enhanced skills training grants may be available for courses carried out at Glenmore Lodge, near Aviemore.
